The difference between Desk Outlets, Grommets and Bushings
Desk outlets are devices that make connections like USB, power, and Ethernet safer and easier to access. You don’t have to worry about tripping over wires or making a mess; just plug into the desk outlet and all the cables from the unit to the power receptacle or net connection are neatly run under the desk. Nobody wants to see a bunch of people in businesswear crawling under a table looking for power and data connections; it’s downright undignified, not to mention a time-waster.
There are lots of different type of desk outlets available. Some are removable, others are permanently installed into the desk. Some are retractable, others have flip over covers, and still others mount on the underside of the desk. Many desks come with predrilled holes on the desktop for running cables. Other times, the cable holes will need to be drilled by the user.
Desk grommets come in many varieties: the simplest are basically rubber or plastic rings placed inside a cable hole in the desk to protect the cables from abrasion. More sophisticated options offer sliding covers or flexible flaps to secure cables in place. They are available in plastic, wood, metal, and rubber, depending on what look/feel the user is going for.
Bushings are similar to grommets, but our snap and snub bushings help secure cables and insulate them from shock and vibration. We also offer rubber bumpers that absorb impact and help to minimize damage to items that are frequently moved or come into contact with other objects.
We have a massive selection of desk outlets and grommets. Almost all desk outlets are customizable, so if you don’t see exactly what you need, please give us a call!
