We're always on the lookout for things that will meet our needs and make our own lives better, but did you know that it's possible to help improve the lives of others through nothing more than a simple product choice? Case in point: cable rings. You may never have associated aerial cable support with jobs for those who are visually impaired and have other disabilities, but, these two worlds have very strong ties, especially at CAB®, which is operated by the Cambria County Association for the Blind and Handicapped (CCABH).

ABOUT CCABH

CCABH currently operates in both Johnstown and Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1927 and originally sponsored by the Johnstown Lions Club. CCABH opened their first workshop in Johnstown in 1943, and over the next two decades, Cambria County would emerge as a leader among organizations providing social and vocational rehabilitation programs to individuals living with visual impairment, blindness, and other disabilities.

Employing and/or providing services to over 500 disabled persons per year, CCABH operates its rehabilitation and manufacturing programs from two 50,000+ square foot work centers. Each person is evaluated for their abilities to carry out a variety of tasks. Based upon the results of this "job sampling," every participant is assigned to specific positions, working on various aspects of manufacturing cable supports and safety products.

CCABH's support doesn't end when they've coached their clients in different tasks and provided them with gainful employment. Program members also receive work adjustment training, which helps them to prepare for, and cope with, the challenges and expectations that they're most likely to experience in their new vocational settings. In addition, participants learn how to complete banking transactions, budget their money, and comparison shop during social-orientation outings that include dinners, shopping trips, and tours. And once clients are settled into their new occupations, CCABH continues to support them and track their progress through individual, group, and family counseling programs. The organization also provides free vision screenings and devices that can be used to make tasks at work and home easier, by providing program participants with various tools to maintain independent living.

WHICH PRODUCTS AT CABLEORGANIZER® HELP TO SUPPORT CCABH?

While the products produced by CCABH clients cater to a wide array of industries and needs, those offered at CableOrganizer® fall into the cable support systems category. Every purchase of the aerial cable managers from CableOrganizer® supports CCABH, ensuring the organization can continue enriching the lives of disabled and handicapped individuals and their families. We offer the CAB® PVC Coated Cable Rings, which are designed for use in the most corrosive environments. These stainless and galvanized steel cable rings have an insulative, spark-proof PVC coating that resists flame, stands up to UV radiation, and gives bundled cables a smooth, non-abrading surface to rest on and travel over.
