In a power failure, the exit sign stays illuminated and the emergency lights automatically turn on to provide area lighting for up to 90 minutes. Units are hard wired to a reliable electrical source. During a power failure, power is drawn from the internal 6-volt lead calcium rechargeable battery system. Emergency lights automatically shut off and begin to recharge following the return of power.
