ELECTRICAL CODE - Do these staples meet residential codes for 14/3 and 12/3 NM wiring?
- Thank you for your question. The only standard met by these staples as far as manufacturers information I found listed is that they are UL Listed. As of right now, that is the only information the manufacturer has provided.

Comments about Gardner Bender Cable Boss Staple Gun:
This staple gun will not work when oriented sideways (tacking wire to a wall or a vertical stud for example). In any position except for shooting straight down on a flat level surface, any/all of the three types of GB staples jam in the mechanism. Even when it does work (straight down) the staples do not penetrate very far into the wood - requires a hammer to finish off.

Comments about Gardner Bender Cable Boss Staple Gun:
The Cable Boss is a great tool for old-work electrical projects where you usually end up working in cramped spaces, too cramped to steady a staple and swing a hammer. The Cable Boss is ideal in these situations. It sets an insulated staple firmly in wood surfaces. Keep in mind, this tool enables you to work with a variety of staple sizes to secure a range of flat and round cables in wood of varying density, so, with all these variables, don't expect a perfectly set staple each and every time. You may want to tap a staple or two to achieve the desired grip, and that is easily accomplished using the flat of your side cutters. Other than that, the tool performs flawlessly.

Comments about Gardner Bender Cable Boss Staple Gun:
Could not disassemble entirely to replace parts that came loose after removing visible screws. One was in a location in the forefront of the lever that could not be removed.
There is no diagram included to show where the two loose parts fit, and there are only two of them.

Comments about Gardner Bender Cable Boss Staple Gun:
I only bought this thing to secure NM where there is no ROOM to swing a hammer.
Even with the steel staple guide, you must do all you can to try to center the cable within it...in other words, try to float it edge to edge and avoid contact with the sides of the cable, or these things WILL rip your sheathing!
Second problem, I usually find that the first and last staple of the rack tend to misfire. I now test-fire into a 2-by first.
Occasionally, you sometimes have to finish driving with a hammer or some other tool, cuz they don't always seat.
I will say this though: running 10/2 in my tight crawl space, I was able to successfully run about 90 feet of cable onto 43-year-old 4x6 floor joists (can you say "rock hard" wood?) with only a few bent staples. Simply yanking them out and moving an inch or two over solved that problem. In this case, it really saved me.
All in all, this thing is only good for tight cavities and spaces where you can't swing a hammer.

Comments about Gardner Bender Cable Boss Staple Gun:
Product is fairly cheap to buy, they must make there profit on staples. I have had 1 out of every 10 staples actually staple correctly. The remaining 9 have jambed and have been thrown in the trash. Be prepared to buy 20 to 25 boxes of staples to wire a single average size house. I have emailed the manufacture but have not recievewd a response.
