I can’t believe I’m doing this. Me, the chick who swoons when she hears words like “vein” and “needle”, and runs screaming from the room Macauley-Culkin-in-Home-Alone-style when her friends and family decide to go TMI and start swapping surgery horror stories. Today, I’m tackling the medical world. Yikes.
We’ve talked about home cable management, office cable management, and special event cable management – but today, we’re going to the hospital. You heard me. They may smell funny and weird me out, but on the serious side, hospitals are chock-full of critical cables and hoses that need to be ready to go at a moment’s notice. There’s no time to waste when a medical emergency arises, so monitor leads, hoses, and other cords need be in order – when someone’s life is on the line, doctors and nurses shouldn’t have to stop to untangle equipment first.
That’s why the Cord Caddy™ Medical Cord Organizer has been such a hit with healthcare professionals. Their jobs are stressful enough without having to wrestle with disorganized equipment carts. The Cord Caddy™ mounts right onto medical stands, IV poles, wall brackets and other fixtures to manage cables right at their sources.
In addition to the general neatness and time-saving factors, there are also the matters of infection control and money savings. The Cord Caddy™ is instrumental in keeping hoses and cables off the floor, which not only prevents them from being dragged through who knows what kind of bacteria, but also keeps them from being trampled underfoot during procedures. I’ve read testimonials from hospital department heads, raving about how much money the Cord Caddy™ shaved from their annual cable replacement expenditures. So think about the Cord Caddy™, medical professionals. It’s one worthwhile investment – for you, for your employees, and for your patients.

No matter who you are, where you live, or how big or small your circle of family and friends is, chances are very good that you know someone whose life has been changed because of breast cancer. Maybe you’ve lost a loved one to it. Maybe you’ve watched someone close to you battle though it and emerge a survivor. Maybe you’re living with it yourself. But one thing’s for sure – once you have a brush with the disease, you never forget it.
Since yesterday, October 1st, you’ve probably begun seeing a lot pink ribbons and references to Breast Cancer online and in the media. That’s because October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year, 2009, CableOrganizer.com has decided to jump in and do something to support this admirable, and universal, cause.
And so, today, I’m not going to focus on one cool product, but 9 very worthwhile ones that are not only fun and useful, but whose purchase goes toward supporting breast cancer research, as well as meeting the needs of women who are fighting the disease. If you or someone you know is a fan of the color pink, please visit our Breast Cancer Pink Page, which is full of rosy-hued products that have been chosen to help raise funds in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. From now through October 31, 2009, we’re donating $1 from each purchase of these products to The Donna Foundation, a Florida-based non-profit organization dedicated to furthering breast cancer research and providing assistance to breast cancer patients.
So if you’re already looking into accessorizing your iPod or organizing some cables around the house, please be sure to check out the items on our Pink Page first – by purchasing one of these products, you’ll not only be getting something you need, but will also be helping to prevent and cure breast cancer in the process.
I know we just talked about earbud cord management a few weeks ago, but it’s a pretty hot topic among iPod fans, so I figured you might like to hear about another cool MP3-related cord organizer that’s out there. Meet the aptly-named earPod, a neat little cord winder/earbud case that’s specially designed for those of us who tend to toss our iPods into purses or backpacks when we’re not using them.
Now, you may have seen the earbud cord winders that are more for use while you’re actually listening to your iPod – they keep cords at exactly the length you want them so, so you don’t get tangled up in your earphone wires while you’re dancing around (admit it). But like I mentioned a minute ago, the earPod is more about storage, because we all know that earbuds get bored when you’re not using them, and amuse themselves by tying their own cords in knots when you’re not looking. I know this for a fact. But I digress.
The earPod is essentially a small circular case that has a twist-open lid, and a groove that runs around its outer edge. Said groove is what you wrap your earbud cords around, and when you can’t wind anymore, you just flip the lid aside, and nestle the earpieces into the felt-lined secret compartment. Close the lid up, and you’re left with a tidy, almost puck-shaped package, and more importantly, tangle-free and well protected earbuds. And just in case you’re not the toss-it-in-a-bag type, the earPod is equipped with a clip that lets you slide it right onto a pocket or belt loop for easy access.
Can you ever really enjoy your iPod listening experience when you constantly feel like you’re getting tangled up in your earbud cords? No matter how many times you may bat them away, they just keep coming back to bug you, and have a way of twisting up the more you try to move them around. Plenty of MP3 player owners have little gadgets to wind up earphone cords when they’re off duty, but did you know that you can actually manage those wires while they’re in use?
Meet the Core Cord Organizer, an ultra-compact and practically weighless cable winder that is so unobtrusive, you can leave them dangling from your earbuds even when you’re rocking out to your playlist. Because it has an apple core shape (hence the name) and doesn’t need to be opened and closed to wind and unwind cables, the Core is perfect for those times when you need to frequently readjust the length of your cords – just wrap the wire around the Core until it’s the right length, then lock it in place by popping the wire’s ends into the channels on either end of the Core.

Talking about cable storage in yesterday’s post got me thinking about another wire spooling product that I’m crazy about: the Rack-A-Tiers® Wire Dispenser. It’s nothing fancy, but this spooling system really gets the job done – and at a very reasonable price.
Consisting of two end pieces that are only 17″ x 17″ x 9″, the Rack-A-Tier® system is equipped with 5 different cable bar holes, so you can create a spool rack in just about any configuration you need. As you can see in the picture, the Rack-A-Tier® can handle many different types of spools, so it’s as well-suited to your home workbench or garage as it is to large jobsites. And while cable and wire are the most obvious things to store on it, you can use the Rack-A-Tier® for pretty much anything that you can roll up on a spool, including rope, chain, twine, braided sleeving, bungee cord, Christmas lights – you name it.
In addition to holding spoolable things, the Rack-A-Tier® wire dispenser is also a huge help on the job, especially if the task at hand is wire pulling. Because it allows you turn spools and dispense wire with barely any effort, it’s like having an extra pair of hands around. And if you need even more storage capacity, no problem – the Rack-A-Tier is stackable, so you can double your storage without taking up twice the floorspace.
Rack-A-Tier wire dispensers are waterproof, rustproof, and even buoyant, and are simple to disassemble and stow away in between jobs. And it can also be used as a pipe vise (when used in conjunction with the Rack-A-Tiers pipe wrench adapter), and not to mention a temporary work bench. Why don’t you have one of these?
Ever had a storage closet or a corner of your garage that was pretty much carpeted in twisted-up, unused extension cords? Ever thought that there was a better way you could be using that space? Well, you were right, and I know how to make that possible. It won’t cost you a lot or take up much time – all you need is an EZWIND™ Cord Organizer.
Forget bending your arm and trying to wind extension cords up using your hand and elbow as a spool. That might work for a while, but sooner or later the cords come unlooped, and end up as the tangled piles you’re trying to avoid anyway. With the EZWIND™, it’s not only easier to spool cords, it’s also far more convenient to store them. The EZWIND™ acts as a spool frame for up to 150 feet of cable, whether that’s made up of a single cable or multiples. It’s design features a unique center post, which causes you to coil your cables in such a way that the typical twisting and kinking are completely avoided. And when you’re done winding, you can secure your cable in place by simply sliding its plug into one of the EZWIND’s™ 4 slots.
EZWIND™ isn’t limited to use with extension cords – it’s also a terrific way to store your twinkle lights between holiday seasons (no more untangling Clark Griswold-style balls of Christmas lights). It even works with plain old rope or bungee cord.

Yes, I know I’ve covered office and desk cable management several times already, but considering that so many of us spend most of our waking hours at a computer, I think it’s an important thing to focus on. A little bit of organization can make a huge difference in your sanity level and rate of productivity, especially when you’re dealing with computer cords. And that’s why I’d like to introduce you to the Cable-Safe™.
The Cable-Safe™ is a completely unique cord organizer, in that it doesn’t only lift your computer cables off the floor and out of the way, but your power strip as well. I don’t know about you, but I find it a little annoying that power strips never seem to lay flat on the floor – it’s like they just twist around and end up in going in whatever direction their power cords want them to. But I digress. Anyway, the point that I’m trying to make is that with the Cable-Safe™, you’ll no longer be accidentally kicking your power strip around beneath your desk, and you’ll also be able to affix it any way you’d like on the cable manager and know that it will stay that way.
Now, down to the nitty-gritty: how it works. The Cable-Safe™ is actually suspended from the underside of your desktop, thanks to an adjustable clamp that can either hang from an existing grommet hole, or attach to the desktop itself. It’s equipped with a variety of hooks that can both hold coiled cables and act as shelves for mounting hubs and small power devices. The Cable-Safe™ comes with hook and loop cable ties to keep your cords neatly wound, mini bungee-type straps that can hold hubs in place, and even fun color coded stick-on labels that help you keep track of which cables are which. It’s a very complete and well thought out kit.
Cable-Safes are available individually, or, you can treat your whole office to some under-desk cable management with the Professional Installer Kit, which has everything you need to organize anywhere from 10-15 workstations.
What do you use when you want to bundle and protect cables, but still need to have the option of breaking cables out at different points along the way? You reach for Spiral Wrap, of course. True to its name, spiral wrap is indeed a long, tightly-wound plastic spiral which makes up a flexible, near-solid tube that can be wrapped around cords and wires that you’d rather have covered. Spiral wrap is similar in concept to wire loom, except that it has thicker walls, and instead of breaking cables out of a lengthwise slit, you just feed them out of the bundle (between coils) as needed.
As I just mentioned, spiral wrap is substantially thicker than standard wire loom, a feature that makes it ideal for fending off gnawing pets who would otherwise chew through your cables. As a matter of fact, we’ve heard from a customer who uses spiral wrap to keep her rabbit from chewing on low-hanging lamp cords.
Our spiral wrap is made from tough but flexible polyethylene plastic, which is excellent at resisting abrasion. You can order it by the foot for small cable management tasks, or buy it by the spool for bigger jobs. It’s available in you choice of 6 solid or 3 neon colors.

For any of you out there who want to get rid of extra cord length with minimum effort, let me introduce you to the Cord-It™ Cord Manager. This compact cord winder requires so little exertion that it can actually organize your cables with no more than a turn of the wrist.
The key to the Cord-It’s simplicity is its unique design. It’s basically a hard plastic case with a slotted, rotating top. To put it in action, just insert any cord up to 5mm in diameter into the slot, turn the top, and watch as the cord is magically shortened to the exact length you need. Okay, so maybe you can’t attribute the cable management so much to “magic” as you can the hidden inner spool. The turning action draws cords inside the case and neatly winds them around the spool at the same time, in one simple motion.
Aside from being easy to use, the Cord-It™ has the added benefit of keeping all of that excess wire clean and free of dust. At only 3″ and 4″ in diameter, both medium and large Cord-Its are perfectly compact, which makes them as great for travel as they are around your home or office. Choose form black, beige, clear or white.
