NYLON (NY) is commonly used in the automotive industry to protect wires and hoses from excessive wear. Vibration and abrasion can tear automotive hoses to pieces, but NY can increase hose life up to 300%. This lengthened lifespan is recognized in terms of reduced maintenance and downtime, an attractive and professional appearance and greater customer satisfaction. With the protection that NYL provides, it pays for itself throughout the life of your product.

NY is braided from .012" Nylon® 6-6 polyamide monofilament. The tight braid construction covers fully and provides excellent surface abrasion resistance for assemblies exposed to excessive wear. The smooth Nylon fibers and tight construction also reduce abrasion damage caused by hoses and harnesses rubbing against the inside wall of the sleeving.

NY resists all common automotive chemicals and UV damage. It won't rot or retain moisture.

Comments about 1/2 inch Nylon monofilament braid - per foot:

I used this product on the door lock rods inside the doors of my 1992 Z24 Convertible. I could not find the correct type nylon mesh tubing used by the factory and ran across the Nylon monofilament braid while searching for the OEM stuff. So, after already spending a while looking for a suitable replacement for my old crumbling tubing, I decided to try this. Works beautifully! Very low friction so the rods slide inside the braid with ease. Keeps the rods quiet, since there is no metal to metal contact between the lock rods and the inner door frame. Makes operation of the locks silky smooth feeling.

While this wasn't what it was designed for, it certainly fills the bill as a friction reducer for sliding parts that are often up against another surface.

Only drawback was trying to get a nice cut. I used scissors to cut it and while it made nice clean cuts, the braid would fray very easily. I used a lighter to melt the ends which stopped the fraying. There is a hot knife I saw on the website here made just for cutting this braid. For anyone that will be cutting and installing a substantial amount of this braid should buy the hot knife to cut it with. I feel sure it will give you a nice clean cut and the braid will not fray if it is used.

Overall, I am as happy with the results I got using this product as I would have been had I of found the correct OEM tubing.

Comments about 1/2 inch Nylon monofilament braid - per foot:

Was exactly what I was expecting for my new car harness I was rebuilding. Really cleans up the engine bay. My only suggestion to anyone who wants to use this, is buy a hot knife. I had professional quality, high end shears and the nylon is very tough but without being melted after every cut the weaving will try to fail. Hot knife will solve this problem.

I did use silicone tape to seal the ends since I didn't have a hot knife; otherwise the ends will fray - so beware. You could use shrink tubing too to seal the ends.

I use this to sleeve d.i.y. power cables for portable professional audio gear. Power wires on pc power supply cables for cleaner look. Offers much better protection than regular plastic type sleeving; often seen on pc psu cables & fans wires. Nylon has denser weave than regular sleeving. Costs more, but looks much better and if protection is necessary than you can't beat this.
