ANSI/IEEE Standard C62.41
IEEE Standard 587, Guide on Surge Voltages in AC Power Circuits Rated up to 600V describes the traditional impulse wave for short branch circuits, at or near the circuit breaker box. Categories A and B for long and short branch circuits are established. Peak voltages that occur are given as a function of various exposure levels. In addition, surge energy (available surge current) is specified. The standard also presents the 100 kilohertz damped cosine wave form called a Ring Wave to simulate oscillatory wave shapes found on branch circuits.
