Jim Norton, Machine Safety and Risk Assessment Consultant

 A 25+ year veteran of the machine guarding industry, Jim Norton is the President of JHN Group, a Hanover, Massachusetts consulting firm that provides guidance and instruction on machine guarding and risk assessment issues. As the former Vice President and Director of Safety Technology for Gibson Engineering, he has an impressive background in machine safety. He has worked extensively within OSHA, both as an authorized trainer (his students include OSHA Senior Staff at the US Department of Labor, as well as Enforcement and Outreach personnel from the New England Region) and an editorial board advisor for the Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, and Robotics sections of the organization’s health and safety website.

Jim is a former President of the Association for High Technology Distribution (AHTD), and currently leads the national OSHA/AHTD Alliance. Jim has presented Machine Guarding and Risk Assessment seminars on behalf of the Northern New England, Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island Safety Councils, and served as a guest lecturer at Keene State College’s New England OSHA Training Institute Education Center. In addition to frequently advising OSHA in the selection of technologies for employee safety and machine guarding, Jim has also provided risk assessment and machine-guarding consultation to many large US corporations. Jim holds a BS in Psychology, a JD in Law, and is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
