This is the ultimate 3-in-1 network cable tester in a small, convenient device. The VDV MultiMedia Cable Tester 33-856 from Ideal Industries is an easy to use voice, data and video/security tester that can instantly evaluate and verify all wiring requirements found in any commercial or residential building. Its compact and comfortable ergonomic design gives you complete functionality without the need to carry around multiple testers to get the job done. A push-button selection between voice, data and video/security testing functions checks for opens, shorts, miswires, reversals and split pairs. |
The tester indicates the correct wiremap to 568A/B standards, and has an easy to read display with a “PASS “or Miswire” indicator for each test. It also identifies voltages on cables. The tone generator supports 4 different tones to isolate fault locations and trace cables easily. It even has a detachable integrated remote unit readily available for patch cable testing.

Very handy little tool, saved me a lot of headaches when installing CAT6 in my home, it displays on screen a simple connection pass/fail and indicates the wires causing the problem. The detachable remote makes it really easy to trace what wires go where and tester is pretty intuitive. The ability to test signal quality would be nice, but for a DIY voice/data network or A/V install this is more then enough to get the job done.

I bought this item to test the network cabling that I installed @ work. I am a person that has a taste for higher quality. Sine then I used it for setting up my HD antenna, and now am working to solve a phone problem in the house. I have not had anything with this test to put a bad taste in my mouth. The only thing that I miss is a proper list of errors that can come up...this is what I am looking for now!
How ever I would recommend this for others for sure, it is a great tool!!!
