The ProTemp is a hand-held, battery-operated sensor that safely and accurately measures temperature using non-contact infrared technology. Operation of the ProTemp is simple. Just point the sensor at the desired target, and press and hold the "on" button for a temperature reading, no contact is needed. The ProTemp has a first temperature response time of 1 second and a continuous reading feature, which is achieved by holding down the "on" button. This new design is a much needed alternative to those "gun" type testers. This can be extremely useful in industries such as HVAC (compressors, motors), Food Service (for ovens, grills, fryers), Automotive (heating or cooling losses), and there are many other applications that make this product a must have. In the food industry infrared thermometers are for checking the surface temperature of the pot or pan that you are cooking in. Not to be used for checking the temperature of food you are cooking it will only tell you the temperature of food on the outside not on the inside. Thay are for checking temperature of your griddle or skillet to see if they are ready or to hot to use.
The ProTemp has a distance to target ratio (D:T) and measures the emitted energy of a target to the size of the working distance. For example, for the ProTemp 6, which has a 6:1 ratio if the distance is 6 inches, the diameter of the measured area is 1 inch and for the ProTemp 10 if the distance is 10 inches, the diameter of the measured area is 1 inch.
