What is the difference between the wire duct types?
There are four basic types of wire duct: open slot, narrow slot, closed slot and solid wall. A fifth type would be the Noryl which is similar to the regular wire duct, however it has zero halogen and low smoke release. Open slot wire duct is efficient when you have many heavier cables going to several different break out points, or locations. If you were wiring several different server cabinets with bundles of fiber cables, the open slot would be perfect because the fingers can be broken out to make even bigger slots for the wires to pass through. Narrow slot is similar to open slot, except it is made for small, lightweight wires where more access is needed. Closed slot wire duct also has open fingers, however it can take much more weight since the fingers are fused together at the top, where the cover slides over. The last type is solid wall. Solid wall most closely resembles the raceway because it is meant to carry cables all to the same location. The cover slides over the duct giving it a complete, box look.
