What is a U/RMS?
1U is an industry-wide standard unit of measurement used when dealing with racks and enclosures. 1U is equivalent to 1.75 inches. RMS (rack mount space) is just another term used for 1U. It is the distance between each hole running lengthwise up the mounting rails in the rack or enclosure. Knowing how many U's the components in your rack/enclosure fill will help you select the correct height rack to suit your needs.
