CableOrganizer.com Knowledge Database - F.A.Q.

What are the uses for solid versus stranded Cat 5e or Cat 6 wire?
The major use for stranded wire is patch cords. Patch cords are usually terminated at the end into a jack, which is much easier to do with a punch down tool if the wire is already stranded. If the wire is solid it is one large wire and cannot be terminated into a jack. The primary use for solid wire is generally running voice or data streams. http://www.cableorganizer.com/cat-cable/
