I have a conference table that needs to have power and laptop hook-ups without looking messy. Any ideas?

The best way to add plug-in points to your conference table without having to deal with the clutter and messy appearance of cables is to install tabletop power and data outlets. Also known as desk outlets, work surface power/data centers install flush into your conference table top, counter, or desk, so that you have the convenience of power and data ports less than an arm’s length away, without the hassle of a surge protector physically sitting on top of, and crowding, your workspace.

Desk outlets keep cables in check by running them below the table’s surface, so they’re invisible and completely out of the way. This feature not only helps your conference room look cleaner and more professional, but also provides presenters and meeting attendees with a convenient way to connect laptops and projectors, and eliminates the risk of anyone tripping over cables that are stretched between the conference table and wall outlets.

While some power/data centers have preset outlet and data port configurations, many are customizable, which allows you to integrate just about any combination of power, Ethernet, USB, and audio/video connections you might need, by way of interchangeable snap-in adapters that accommodate different types of connectors.

When adding power and data connectivity to your conference table, the biggest decision is which size and style of desk outlet will work best for your workspace. Here are a few of our favorite power/data center designs:

  • Flip-Open Power/Data Centers: When not in use, flip-open tabletop outlets are completely concealed beneath covers that lay flush with the surface of your conference table. When it’s time to plug in, just flip open the lid and enjoy full access to ready-and-waiting power outlets and data ports.
  • Pop-Up Desk Outlets: Pop-up desk outlets hide beneath the surface of your conference table or workstation, but are ready to go as soon as you need them. Designed to rise out of your conference table when you tap or pull on their covers, pop-up power/data centers retract back into your office furniture when they’re no longer needed.
  • Removable Desk Outlets: If you want the convenience of a tabletop outlet but aren’t ready to commit to cutting a hole in your desk or conference table in order to install one, you can get many of the same benefits with a removable desk outlet. Removable power/data centers clamp onto the edge of a tabletop for easy clutter-free plug-ins, and can be just as easily removed and stored when the meeting is over.
