Do baseboard and crown molding cable managers replace the actual moldings in my home?

While we wouldn’t recommend actually replacing baseboard, crown or other architectural moldings in your home with specialty raceways, a few of our cable management products can actually mimic the look of different accent moldings, so they’re a great choice of you have a completely blank room in which you want to route cables along walls and achieve a decorative “molding” fake-out at the same time. Here are a few of our favorite ways to invisibly route cables while simultaneously playing up your décor.

  • Cornerduct Raceway, aka “crown molding raceway,” is a 90 degree angled, wedge-shaped wire channel that’s designed to fit perfectly into corners. It’s ideal for running cables from floor to ceiling in out-of-the-way corners, but if installed along the joint between your wall and ceiling, it can actually give the impression of crown molding. Cornerduct can be adhered to surfaces via its pre-applied self-stick backing, but if you want an extra secure installation, just zip a few screws through the base to anchor it more firmly to the wall.
  • Quarter Round Raceway is much like Cornerduct, except smaller. In addition to being ideal for use in corners, quarter round raceway also works very well when placed where baseboard molding meets the floor. When painted or stained the same color as your baseboard, it gives the look of gently rounded decorative contouring at the base of your molding, and makes a very nice transition between walls and flooring.
  • ChordSavers™ WallSaver™ Wall Cord Protectors can double as decorative chair rail as they route cables along wall surfaces – and you’re the only one who will know the secret they conceal. The WallSaver’s simple domed shape has clean lines that will work well in just about any room, and even better than that, it’s available in black, white, popular wood finishes, and even an unfinished faux wood grain material that can be custom-stained to match other woodwork or flooring in your home.
  • In most cases, Half Round Decorative Raceway isn’t quite wide enough to stand in for chair rail (the largest size measures only 2 inches across), but installed along existing baseboards and even crown molding, it’s still an excellent way to camouflage cable runs in such a way that they blend in with the existing moldings in a room. Even in situations where you might not necessarily be trying to replicate molding, half round wire channel has gently rounded semi-circular shape that rises off walls more gracefully than rectangular raceway, especially when given a quick coat of latex paint to make it match surrounding surfaces.
