Abesco FP200 Fire Rated Expanding Foam is an expanding, fire-rated polyurethane foam designed to prevent room-to-room fire and smoke spread through gaps or voids in fire-rated walls and floors.. FP200 Fire Rated Expanding Foam provides an insulating seal on and between concrete, brick, wood, metal, aluminum and steel. |
FP200 FR Expanding Foam properly fills gaps and voids in through-penetration firestop systems. Under fire conditions, Abesco FP200 FR Expanding foam provides an effective insulating barrier and maintains the integrity of the firewall or floor. Complements the Abesco CT120 Cable Transit system.
- Easy to install and finish
- Dries to a light Pink color

- Excellent adhesion to most building substrates
- 1 24oz can will cover approximately 1 cubic foot (.995)
- Cures to a strong, semi-rigid seal

This product worked great for a draft and smoke barrier. I felt better knowing that it would not burn. I used it in my home, I didn't like the idea of using Great Stuff or Dap. Worked well around my pipes and wires.

Works, but doesn't spread well

The can has to be held upside down to spray, and being a long can, makes it dificult to dispense in tight areas. Also after just a few seconds of dispensing, the can gets cold and doesn't come out very well. Larger gaps need two coats or more to fill. This is the only stuff that I found available, so it's the only game in town if you want to foam large gaps rather than installing fire-retardant materials.

I was expecting this product to expand as much as the non-fire rated product sold at some large retail businesses. It only expanded about five times the size of the tube it came out of, I was expecting at least twice that amount if not more. To be fair where I was trying to install this product was out of my reach so I made a rig and attached it to an expandable pole. I was trying to install it in a area close to the ceiling and because the can had to be upside down I had to extend the hose and because it was on the end of a pole I was unable to use the finesse that maybe it required. I think if I were able to hold the can in my hand and move it in and out as I applied the product it may have stuck better. I would guess that there were used to encapsulate cables coming through a firewall it would probably work just fine but at this time it just did not meet my needs. On the bottom line question below if a friend were going to use it to go around pipes and wires I would recommend.

Super easy to use, Point and shoot. After the first application and a little testing you can control the applicaton amout to limit your clean up and over application amount.
The larger can equates to a lower cost per application and better profit margin.

Cut rough-in time considerably & reduced cost of fire caulking. I would like to see a FM (Fire Marshal)rating on it and because most of the caulking we do is in the top plate of a wall, I would like the can to dispense right side up, not inverted, with a straight tube on it (not the 90 deg elbow on the nozzle and inverted). We will continue to use it when the local fire inspector allows us.
